Thursday, February 2, 2012:  Ground Hog Day.  There were overcast skies and some fog in the morning.  This small tree was poking through what little snow was on the ground waiting for spring to shed its leaves.  It is what a ground hog might have seen that morning. 

The ground hog did not see his shadow in and around Brainerd, Minnesota.  So, according to legend, "An early spring must come."  We shouldn't be surprised because of the mild winter so far.  Snowfall has been very light. 

Here is a listing of recorded precipitation (snow melted down to water) at the lodge:
November 2011:  0.30" as compared to the average expected 1.30"
December 2011:  0.30" as compared to the average expected 0.80"
January 2012:  0.55" as compared to the average expected 0.70"
