Saturday, November 12, 2011: Mark
took Paula out for dinner and a play. The
joke is that dinner was a a pizza at Rafferty's in Nisswa, Minnesota,
and dessert at a Dairy Queen in Pequot Lakes.
The highlight of the evening was the 1940's Radio
Hour play at the
Pequot Lakes Community Theatre. Set in December 1942 during
WWII, it recreated a live radio broadcast to the nation and around the
world. This included lines to boost the morale of our troops
overseas and commercial announcements of cures of gosh-awful illnesses.
With
Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and
Strike Up the Band songs, it was a real hit with the audience.
Speaking of audience, the show was done with a live audience back then
to get the applause, which this audience happily did when the "Applause"
light came on. With a crew of 22 including an orchestra, it was
excellent. |
