Saturday, September 3, 2011: The Dynamic Duo of Mark and Paula Persons headed to the Minnesota State Fair. It is an annual tradition and is sometimes described as the "Great Minnesota Get Together" or twelve days of fun. |
The Windy Ridge Riders, an excellent horse drill team show, performed carrying flags. They did pin-wheels with great precision. Excellent. |
"Deep Fried Flowering
Onion" was new this year. On the right was garlic parmesan
on a hot dog.
You have to wonder how they do that! |
There were the old guys on Machinery Hill running their 100-year-old engines to the delight of the crowds. |
Mark was trying on hats. He wanted one that looked very Minnesotan. After one glance, Paula said, "Keep looking for a new hat!" |
There were lots of food choices that day, 450 in total of which 70 were on a stick. | ||
Paula selected a hot turkey sandwich from the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association. Topped off with barbecue sauce, it was just right for the occasion and not bad on her diet. |
This one is called the "Big Fat Bacon." It is
bacon on a stick. The bacon slice needs to be fat in order to go on a stick. Other
delicacies included buffalo on a stick, banquet on a stick, hot dish on a stick,
and pizza on a stick just to name a few. Of course,
pronto pups come on a stick.
There were so many stick items that one restaurant advertised that they have NOTHING on a stick, just good food! |
Smokey the Bear was
there near a fire lookout tower reminding everyone that, "only you can prevent
forest fires."
Mark went to the top of the lookout tower and checked out a sighting device normally used to pinpoint forest fires. What is he looking at so intently? Oh...it is Princess Kay of the Milky Way! That explains everything! |
Here she is with other beauties from the fair. Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of the MN State Fair. |
Quote of the day: The Minnesota State Fair is worth going to every year. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
