The life and times of Mark and Paula Persons

Saturday, August 13, 2011: Mark and Paula attended the Show Days at Paul Bunyan Land east of Brainerd along Highway 18.  There was plenty to see from time gone by like this tractor.
An authentic sawmill drew crowds while cutting trees into boards.  The weather was great too.
Power for the mill came from a steam engine, which was kept in good running condition by a steam engineer.
Ian Lowe and Jeremy Knipple were proud of their blacksmithing skills.  The fashioned all manner of iron items from nails to horse shoes stamped with people's names.  Jeremy is a regular at this kind of public event.  Ian was visiting here from Pontefratt, England.
Dead-Eye Paula shot a muzzle-loading musket from the early 1800's.  Yes, that's right, hold your ears while this very loud weapon is fired.  She got the clay pigeon that she was aiming at too!
There was a linotype demonstration too.  This machine made lead type for newspaper printing presses fifty years ago.
Paula is always a good friend to animals wherever she goes.
When it was time to leave, Paula wanted to to in this recreation of a 1903 International truck.  Sorry, Paula!

Quote of the day:  A fun event for a lot of people.  Mark < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
