Thursday, August 4, 2011: Mark and Paula were off to the Crow Wing County Fair in Brainerd. It is one of the better ones around. What was the first thing they went looking for? You guessed it....Food! Paula asked for and got a cheeseburger. |
Mark is a sucker for turkey so he devoured a grilled turkey leg. His comment, "It doesn't get any better than this." |
Then it was off the the beekeeper's booth where ice cream was served with honey and nuts.

Yes, there were bees in a hive for everyone to see too. That is where the
honey comes from.
Watch your fingers, Mark. Ouch! |
Who says you can't play with your food? An excellent display in the horticulture buildings showed what imaginative people can do. |
A young lady and her horse in the horse barn.
Even horses need to eat. |
Jeremy Knipple was there showing how to blacksmith. |
Here he took a nail and turned it into a hook with a leaf at the end. Yes, that's right, he split the nail three times in the process of making this hook. There was no welding, just genuine blacksmith work reshaping the nail. Jeremy is full of ideas that turn out beautifully. |
Over on machinery hill, this mechanic was trying to get one of the engines working properly. This one is from the early 1900's and still runs today. |
It seems there is a new thrill in the midway every year.
This year was no exception. Yes, the Crow Wing County Fair is rated as one of the top three county fairs in the state. |
Quote of the day: Everyone has a fun time at the fair. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
