Wednesday, March
23,
2011: Spring officially began at 6 PM on Monday, March 21st.
Unfortunately, no one told old man winter. He came in on Tuesday
night and dumped plenty of snow on Gilbert Lodge and Brainerd,
Minnesota.
Here, the trusty 10-horse Snow King snow thrower is being readied for another day on the job first thing Wednesday morning. Hmmm. it looked like a formidable task...especially when it was still snowing. The left control, between the handle bars, is a joy-stick for operating the snow discharge chute. You got to have some fun while working! |
There was plenty of snow to clear. The work was done by Paula's man-servant Mark, who is also the maintenance man at the lodge. |
How deep was it?
Well, this ruler showed 12 inches along the edge of where the snow
thrower had gone. It was as little as 10 inches in some areas.
Mark wanted to show the 12 inches because that gave him bragging rights. He went out later in the day to clear another inch or two from the driveway after it quit snowing. |
The sun came out in the afternoon to reveal snow being cradled by pine trees at Gilbert Lodge. |
Here is a closer view. It won't last but a few days because spring is on the way. |
Later, Mark was out blowing
snow from in front of the mailbox after a city snowplow cleared just one
lane through the neighborhood. That was fine well until two hours
later when another snowplow came through to do both driving lands which
required Mark to go out again to clear more snow from areas he had
already done that day. At this time of year, snow can be a four-letter word. |
Quote of the day: Just another Minnesota day. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
