Tuesday, March 1, 2011: Mark made his way to Pipestone in the southwestern corner of Minnesota. High winds caused snow to blow over roads making traveling a bit hazardous. |
Even the railroad had snow plows out to clear the way. That's right, this is a snowplow operating on train tracks to clear snow drifts. |
Later in the day, there was a beautiful sunset over Buffalo Ridge, just east of Pipestone. |
Buffalo
Ridge is now famous for wind turbines which generate electric power to
help America through the energy crisis. The blade hub is 150 feet off the ground and each blade is 52 feet long for a total diameter of 104 feet. This unit will generate 700,000 watts of electricity in the right wind conditions. |
Only 16 days until St. Patrick's Day. |
Quote of the day: Minnesota winters are very interesting and sometimes unpredictable. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
