         The life and times of Mark and Paula Persons

January 1, 2010:  Daybreak on New Year's Day at Gilbert Lodge.  It is also the beginning of a new decade.

You can see a snow covered home across the narrows of Gilbert Lake from Gilbert Lodge.  The temperature was 6 degrees below zero (38 degrees below freezing) with the prospect of zero degrees (32 degrees below freezing) by mid-day.  

Chef Paula "Julie Child" Persons made her famous Gingerbread Pancakes with locally produced pork sausage.  The pancakes were topped with butter and pure maple syrup from Wisconsin, thanks to Jim and Mary Zastrow from Mosinee, WI. 

Later in the afternoon, Paula took Josie the cat out in -4 degree temperatures to see Gilbert Lake.  Josie was not too thrilled with the idea.  Overnight temperatures are predicted to be in the -28 degree range (60 degrees below freezing) not to mention the wind chill, which could drop the reading another 20 degrees.
