April 18, 2009: Mark and Paula were in downtown St. Paul, MN. It is about 125 south of Gilbert Lodge. They visited the world famous Mickey's Diner at 7th and St. Peter Street. It is now on the National Register of Historic Places. This restaurant has been here since 1939 and has served the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Arnold, Peter Jennings, Rosanne Barr, and the Beach Boys, just to name a few. |

Mickey's reputation for great hamburgers makes it a must-see/taste-spot when in St. Paul. Mark ordered the Classic, which is a cheeseburger, fried potatoes, pickle, and mulligan stew. He and Paula shared a bottle of orange cream soda. Paula enjoyed a hamburger with French fries and baked beans. It doesn't get any better than this. |
Then, it was off to Twin Cities Magic and Costume at 250 East 7th Street in St. Paul. |

Professional magician Mike
had a great time explaining the fine art of being a magician to Paula
who was all-ears.

April 19, 2009: Mark and Paula were off to the Pavek Museum of Broadcasting, now known as the Museum of Broadcasting in St. Louis Park, MN, a suburb of Minneapolis/St. Paul.
On that day, the
Red-Throated League of the Norwegian Explorers of Minnesota
presented its annual Sherlock Holmes Radio Drama live on stage at
the Museum. This year's production was The Case of the Bleeding
Chandelier as originally broadcast from the Longacre Theater in
New York on June 13, 1948, over the Mutual broadcasting System. These local radio actors take their craft seriously, putting on a great show. Just like in 1948, they read from paper scripts. Learn more of what the group has done at http://gilbertlodge.com/2006/3-18-06-pavek.html |

While at the Pavek, Paula used the opportunity to play a Theremin. This electronic musical instrument makes an unusual sound which changes in pitch and volume by how close she holds her hands to two electrodes.
Mark couldn't pass up seeing old/retired equipment from WCCO Radio, clear channel 830 KHz/50 KW in Minneapolis, MN. The road sign reminds us of two famous WCCO radio announcers, Charlie Boone and Roger Erickson. |
