Thursday, December 12, 2024: Paula and Mark headed to Duluth, MN, and up the hill to Enger Tower. It was ten below zero, but that didn't keep them from walking the half mile in. Unfortunately, the tower gate was closed so they couldn't climb the five stories up to get a view. A deer came out to see visitors. There was a vantage point nearby where a ship could be seen coming into the port. You may have noticed ships in the background. Here they are in a closeup. The one in the back has plenty of ice on its bow. The water vapor seen here is often called sea smoke. More sea smoke near the Aerial Lift Bridge. One of the ships can be seen in the distance beyond the shipping channe, near the bridge. Here is a closeup as one rides high, waiting to go into port to pick up cargo. |
