2020: Mark had been up the 65-foot communications tower a week before to do repair work on an antenna. That's when he was stung by a hornet from a nearby hornet nest, some 55 feet up on the tower. |
This time Mark was prepared with a beekeeper's hat and gloves. Added to that was a thick layer of winter clothing. |
Hornets found him from ten feet away, but Mark kept going and
sprayed the nest. You'll see at least ten angry hornets in the photo. Mark said the scary part was staring through the head gear at hornets that wanted to sting him. |
Mark made it back safely with a now-empty hornet spray can
hanging from his OSHA-approved climbing gear. |
Two days later, he was up again in the protective gear to scrape
away the nest. Winter clothing overheated him a bit in the 75 degree weather. All in a day's work! |
Quote of the day: Stay tuned for more tower work soon. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
