Saturday, December 22, 2018:
The shortest day/longest night of the year. Sunrise finally came at 7:58 am. This was after a 4:33 pm sunset the night before. Only 8 hours and 35 minutes of daylight with a long 15 hours and 25 minutes of darkness. This is also the official beginning of winter. Well, winter starts earlier than that in Brainerd, Minnesota! |

Daylight brought people out for a walk with their dog. Lake ice is mostly safe for foot traffic, but not yet thick enough for vehicles in many places. |
