Friday,
November 9, 2018:
Veterans Day ceremonies were held at the Brainerd High School. It was two days early because Veterans Day was on a Sunday this year. |
Flags were passed out and veterans showed up along with about 500 high
school students. |
Walt Straka, a WWII Bataan Death March survivor was there to be honored. |
The Honor Guard from the Brainerd
American
Legion, VFW,
and DAV
presented a flag. |
Students were very respectful. |
The speakers were retired Brigadier General Art Ludwig and his daughter
retired Colonel Laura Ludwig. They spoke about how our nation's military is a family, protecting America from the world. |
Ten WWII and Korean veterans were honored with quilts by the local
chapter of the Quilts of
Valor organization. |
The Brainerd High School Chamber Orchestra and combined grades 9-12
choirs provided the music. |
Nicely done! |
Students left with a better appreciation of veterans and the American flag. |
Quote of the day: A wonderful experience. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
