Friday, November 9, 2018:    Veterans Day ceremonies were held at the Brainerd High School.
It was two days early because Veterans Day was on a Sunday this year.

Flags were passed out and veterans showed up along with about 500 high school students.

Walt Straka, a WWII Bataan Death March survivor was there to be honored.

The Honor Guard from the Brainerd American Legion, VFW, and DAV presented a flag.

Students were very respectful.

The speakers were retired Brigadier General Art Ludwig and his daughter retired Colonel Laura Ludwig.
They spoke about how our nation's military is a family, protecting America from the world.

Ten WWII and Korean veterans were honored with quilts by the local chapter of the Quilts of Valor organization.

The Brainerd High School Chamber Orchestra and combined grades 9-12 choirs provided the music.

Nicely done!

Students left with a better appreciation of veterans and the American flag.

Quote of the day:     A wonderful experience.   Mark    < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
