The Brainerd Lakes
Regional Airport was a busy place when vintage bi-planes showed up. |
Brainerd was on an
American Barnstormers tour. Lots of people booked rides on
planes that were built back in the 1920s. |
They are slow moving, noisy and have open cockpits. How could
anyone have more fun? |
Pilot David Mars was there with his
plane, Checkers.
He looked right for the job so Mark
booked a flight over Brainerd.
|
Mark got in and away they went. Yes, an open cockpit...no need for
air conditioning. |
The Mississippi River, near the old paper mill, is not far from the
airport. |
The hydro-electric dam was worth seeing. |
Downtown Brainerd showed off it's famous concrete water tower. The
town looks different from the air. |
Then it was off to Gilbert Lake. Gilbert Lodge with its green roof
was just visible. Gilligan's island is in the top of the photo. |
A better view of the Lodge from the south side. The Minnow boat
can be seen to its left. |
Then the lakeside, as seen from north of the Lodge. |
Finally, it was time to head back to the airport. |
There were more people getting rides that day. |
The Oh, Brother barbershop quartet was there to entertain folks. The act included their rendition of a flying song. |
Quote of the day: Stay tuned for more barnstormers fun. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
