Friday, July 13, 2018:
Mills softball field was graced by the presence of local royalty. What is
this all about? |
The
Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team was there. American Legion
Riders welcomed them. |
Television Channels 9 and 22 were there to interview players. Local
soldiers attended the event. |
There was a rousing rendition of the National Anthem, which was well
received. |
A Vietnam War veteran (on the left) threw out the first ball. Go
Wounded Warriors, Go. |
Players did exceptionally well. Their injuries did not hold them
back. |
Lots of good food at the concession
stand, run by people dressed for the occasion. One lady had a shirt from last year's VFW State Softball Tournament. It is scheduled again August 9-12, 2018, in Brainerd. |
Mark Persons was given permission to climb a ladder on the Brainerd Fire
Department ladder truck to get photographs. |
There was a good turnout that night in great weather, as seen from up
high. |
Yes, players did well and were cheered on by the crowd. |
Safe at second base! |
Everyone loved the halftime show of patriotic music and donations for
the cause were received. |
There was dancing and singing to the song, Sweet Caroline. |
The players could hit a ball and run fast. |
In the end, the Wounded Warriors won it by one point. Good for
them! |
There were congratulations on the field. |
Then the fireworks began. |
Fireworks were fitting for the occasion. |
Quote of the day: A fun night for all. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
