Saturday, September 30, 2017:
A U.S. Army Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk Helicopter was demonstrated to the public at Camp Ripley, near Little Falls, MN.
UH-60 replaced the aging UH-1 Iroquois, but best known as the Huey, helicopter that Mark is very familiar with.
He was a U.S. Army Sergeant in Vietnam from April 1968 to April 1969.

Mark was one of the luck ones to get a ride in the bird over Camp Ripley that day.
The weather was good so no one became air sick.  Mark loved it.

The crew helmet reminded Mark of Stormtroopers in the movie Star Wars.  Passengers were taking selfies to remember the event.

The Black Hawk flew over the populated part of Camp Ripley before heading out to see more of the 53,000 acres.

The camp has a wild life refuge and recreational area, much to the surprise of many who visit.

They flew over training sites where soldiers practice tactics in and around buildings.  None of that was going on this day.

There are some old military tanks that have been used for target practice.

Another training area with real world situations.
Camp Ripley is a premier training facility for military from across the country and our nation's allies around the world.

The Black Hawk pilot knew his business.  He expertly landed the craft after a 30 minute flight at about 200 feet.
A second batch of passengers hopped on to see for themselves.

Quote of the day:    An extremely interesting experience.   Mark    < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
