Sunday, September 17, 2017:
There was an open house at
Camp Ripley,
Near Little falls, Minnesota. |
The public was invited to see and inspect current military hardware. |
This is an M777 Ultra light Howitzer. It can fire 155 mm
shells over 14 miles. |
Then there was the M109A6 Paladin 155 mm Howitzer on tracks. |
Yes, they are our nation's military, but they have a friendly
side too. |
Speaking of friendly, this Army nurse knows her way around
military ambulances. |
High-tech surveillance is a big part of the military today. |
It might be a while before this youngster is ready to drive. |
Mark remembers driving jeeps when he was a Sergeant in the
U.S. Army, back in Vietnam. |
Veterans from the Korean War were there too. Proud of
their service. |
|
The
Minnesota
Military Museum is located at Camp Ripley and is well attended. |
These two youngsters tried on military clothes that day. |
|
The
museum includes this exhibit showing a German WWI machine gun nest with an
Allied soldier surprising German soldiers. |
World War II re-enactors were there from the
105th Engineer Battalion 30th
Infantry Division. |
Young people were inspecting weaponry that day. |
Hard to attend an event like this without enjoying some ice
cream. |
A
Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter was parked for inspection as well. |
Korean War veterans were thanked for their service to our
country. |
There was music and then a ceremony that day. |
Quote of the day: Always interesting to tour Camp Ripley. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
