Wednesday, August 9, 2017:
Mark
and Paula headed to Holland, MI, where they found locals who are descendents of Dutch settlers.

You wouldn't have Holland without a windmill.

A lady tour guide told about the workings of a flower mill and described the complicated wooden gear arrangement above.

The weather was great.  Local artists were out painting away.

Then the Dynamic Duo whisked off to the other side of town to see more.

Here, a Dutchman was fishing using a wooden shoe as bait.  Hmmm.

Paula couldn't pass up the chance to dance with Dutch people.  Her ancestors came from Holland.

This young lady explained pottery making and how the maker's mark is on the bottom of each item.

Well, wooden shoes.  People of Holland love these foot coverings.

Of course, there was plenty to eat in Holland.

This father was directing his children on the use of skis, with little luck.

Statues told the history and lifestyle of Dutch people.

Paula took lessons from this man who was carving wood.
She was carrying two water buckets and pushing a broom
.  Hmmm...is that a fair trade?

In the end, Paula liked this Dutch towel with windmills.

Quote of the day:    Paula has a lot of Dutch in her.   Mark    < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
