Wednesday
January 6, 2016: Mark and Paula checked in to the
Hangar Hotel at Fredericksburg, Texas.
It looks like a converted aircraft hangar, but it was built from the ground up as a World War II era hotel with period accommodations. The hotel is located at the airport, but you don't have to fly in to stay there. |
Yes, just like it might have been back
then. |
Patriotic room keys too. |
There is a
Douglas C-47 cargo plane, sometimes known as a Dakota or
Skytrain, on display just outside the hotel. A real
workhorse. It is painted with the distinctive three white "invasion stripes" on the wings and fuselage as it would have appeared on D-Day, June 6, 1944. |
|
Lots of signed
memorabilia on the walls. |
There is a nicely stocked bar at the hotel too. Pilots,
and others, get thirsty, you know! |
Paula settled
outside with a tall cool one at sunset. Yes, she slept
like a baby that night too. |
The bar had live piano entertainment that
evening. Nicely done. |

|
The Airport Diner is a great place for a
breakfast. One that can keep a person going all day. They were there right when it opened, before other customers arrived. |
|
Hmmm....does this mean the Dynamic Duo will be out looking at more of Texas? |
Quote of the day: My compliments to the staff at the Hangar Hotel and Airport Diner. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
