Wednesday,
December 9, 2015: Mark and Paula headed to the Twin Ports. From a visitor center at the top of the hill, they could see over Duluth and the bay to Superior beyond. The weather was a bit hazy, which gave a special look at objects below. |
There is an interesting mural
in the Superior Public Library. It depicts the Telegram Newspaper
building with two towers on the roof. Those towers were for WEBC Radio in Duluth/Superior back in the 1920s. Mark's father Charlie was the engineer for this station, and others in the Arrowhead Radio Network. Charlie told his life's story in his autobiography. |
Duluth is a busy
international shipping port. The
SS Eider from Germany
arrived late in the day to pick up a load of grain. |
|
Yes, the Eider
was being carefully watched by Santa Clause himself from a light
tower at the bridge. |
Sunset that day filled the harbor with orange.
|
After sunset, the
Aerial
Bridge was gold in color. Something like the Golden Gate of
Minnesota. |
|
Mark and Paula stopped in
at an Irish pub that evening for a brew, live music, and a little to
eat. The
Dubh Linn is a friendly place. |
Quote of the day: Duluth is a great city. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
