The life and times of Mark and Paula Persons

Tuesday, September 29, 2015:  Mark and Paula stopped at this aircraft and World War II museum near Granite Falls, Minnesota.
This North American B-25 "Mitchell" Bomber from WWII has been restored to perfect condition.

The Doolittle Raid on Tokyo, a tribute to the "can do" attitude of our military leaders.
B-25s flew off the U.S. Navy Carrier Hornet to attack Japan.  The raid was immortalized in the movie Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo.

The museum has some amazing displays.  This one is depicting a Japanese Zero lying at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean after it had been shot down.
Sharks abound in the Pacific.

A life-size exhibit with statues depicting U.S. Soldiers and Marines going ashore on D-Day in France, June 6, 1944.

A military operations briefing room in Europe where orders were given for raids on Germany and other Axis countries in Europe.

A pilot departing the briefing, heading out to his aircraft.   He is on a mission to help win the war.

American planes flying over Germany and the South pacific in World War II.

In all, Mark and Paula traveled 2121 miles in eleven days and ten nights on the road to South Dakota.  Had a great time.

Quote of the day:    Awesome museum.   Mark    < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
