Monday,
January 12, 2015:
Mark and Paula
visited the
winter homes of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison at Fort Meyers,
Florida. Statues of Ford (on the left) and Edison (on the right) showed them at their peak in the 1930s. |
Edison had this huge laboratory on the grounds. He
received
2332 patents for his inventions. They didn't come from
dreaming or luck, it was hard work. Edison once said, "Invention is one-tenth inspiration and nine-tenths perspiration." He is often credited with inventing the light bulb. Not true, but he rightly deserves credit for making it work reliably after so many others failed. |
The Henry Ford winter home on the left and the
Thomas Edison winter home on the right. |
They lived quite well especially when you remember
this goes back almost 100 years. These homes were among the first in Florida to have electric lights. |
Huge dining tables were the norm...as was a parlor
with a piano and fireplace, as you can see in the background. |
The Edison and Ford estates are rich with gardens.
The climate is perfect for it. |
After and experience like that, Mark and Paula
headed to Brew
Babies Garden Bistro. They are highly acclaimed for their food. Italian is their specialty. |
Presentation, presentation, presentation!
They really know how to prepare and serve lobster at this place. |
Quote of the day: It was an enjoyable day. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
