It was the annual open house at
Crow Wing State Park south of Brainerd. Fur traders and the like went there to show their wares and lifestyle to the public. |
Ray Nelson was there with his extensive collection of guns.
He has been researching guns going back before the United States was a country. Most of his are from the 1700s and 1800s. You've seen Ray in previous posts on this blog. |
Plenty of things to learn such as making shakes for roofs and
tanning hides by hand. |
This fur trader was showing his equipment,
including the knife in his hand. He is a member of the Crow Wing County Muzzle Loaders group. |
There was always weaving or other clothing making while hot
coffee was brewing on a fire. |
The Mississippi River as seen from Crow Wing State Park. |
