Members of the
Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd went on a fishing trip on Lake
Mille Lacs. They chartered a boat from the Blue Goose on the west shore of the lake at Garrison, Minnesota. The captain was a serious fellow trying to find just the right fishing spot using GPS, a depth sounder, and his experience. |
About twenty church members went along on this
annual adventure. Lines were in the water as quickly as possible in hopes of catching a big one. |
Plenty of good conversation to go along with the fishing. Yes, they even let women aboard. |
This man is 92 year old Ralph Yeager. He was a sergeant
in the Red Bull division of the US Army in WWII. First he was sent to fight in North Africa when he was just 20 years old. Ralph spent two and one half years in Europe starting with parachuting into Sicily. Later he was on Omaha Beach on D-Day and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. A member of the "greatest generation, he did it all. |
Soon, some fish were being caught. A nice
walleye. |
A father and son team. |
The Chef Bob Weston did his thing by cooking hot dogs and hamburgers. Nice
work, Bob! |
Well, not all fish were big that day. Minnesota Department of Natural Resources regulations only allow fishermen to keep walleye between 18 and 20 inches in length on this lake. All others have to be thrown back for others to catch. |
Pastor Brenda King and her husband were there trying their
luck. Remember, it says in the bible to go to the other side of the boat if you are not catching fish. |
The sky cast an orange light on the chef just before sunset. He told the story about the big one that got in the way. Hmmmm...how big was it? |
Yes, the sunset that night was memorable....especially with friends. |
Sunset on Mille Lacs Lake. Just time for a few more casts before going in
for the night. |
Quote of the day: Had a great time even if I did not catch any fish. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
