The Dynamic Duo of Mark and Paula Persons headed to Duluth, MN. They spied a lighthouse on the end of a pier at the Aerial Lift Bridge entering the Duluth harbor. |
|
Paula was out with her camera documenting lake ice. This was a LONG winter with plenty of ice still on Lake Superior near the Duluth harbor at this late date. A U.S. Coastguard ice breaking ship had been clearing the way for ships for many weeks. |
Then, there she was....the
Algoma Olympic, some 730 feet long and 75 feet wide with 887 gross tons. She has sailed the seven seas since 1976 and entered the harbor with chunks of ice floating nearby. |
|
After all that excitement, it was
time to stop into a local pub for dinner. Paula loves this Irish place and the cute waiters. They have good Irish accents too! |
Classic Fish and
chips...a favorite of Paula |
Piper's Feast, made from
scratch steak stew with onion, shallot, carrot, garlic mashed potatoes and served with crusty bread. An Irish classic and bar favorite. |
This
Irish pub has an authentic phone booth from the "other side of the
pond." Superman is in greater and
greater trouble nowadays. |
|
There was a music festival going on in Duluth that weekend. Entertainers of all types were there to show what they do. |
|
Even some ethnic bands. Great music. Known as the Duluth Homegrown Music Festival, it is an annual event. |
|
The Duluth skyline as seen from the Aerial Bridge just after sunset. Radio and television towers proudly stand on the hillside overlooking the city. |
|
Yes, the Aerial Bridge looks even
better at night than during the day. It is a real landmark in this international port city. |
Quote of the day: Duluth is a wonderful city. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
