Thursday, August 1, 2013:
Three hundred people gathered at Grand View Lodge on the north end of Gull Lake, about 15 miles north of Brainerd. It was the 15th annual Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation award in philanthropy dinner. |
Honored that evening were Paul
and Lynn Hunt of Pine River, Minnesota. Mark has known Paul since Paul was in high school in Brainerd in the early 1970's. In fact, Paul graduated with Paula in the Brainerd Class of 1972. The Hunts became famous when Paul conceived and developed the Turtle Meter Reader. Since then, they sold the company and moved on to helping the community through contributions. Congratulations on a job well done! |

Grand View Lodge is an interesting place with a
history that goes back more than 90 years. It is on the National Registry of Historic Places. A fitting place to hold this celebration. |
Sunset that evening was awesome for everyone. Boats come in as the sun goes down. |
The lodge entrance is beautiful after sunset. It is an inviting place. |
A stairway down to the lake is a favorite with
locals and tourists alike. Much photographed, it is well known. |
Another view of the lake where just one light is
seen. The world rests for another day on Gull Lake. |
One last look to the northwest from a vantage
point on the east side of Gull Lake, about two miles from the
Grandview Lodge. Yes, they should call this location, "Sunset Bay." |
Quote of the day: Summer in the Northland. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
