Monday,
May 13, 2013: Mark drove to Marshfield, Wisconsin,
to visit long time friend Basil Polasek. Basil's wife Bernice died in the
last year. He is 76 and it was time to talk about life.
Basil is one of two who suggested that Mark join the U. S. Army back in 1966. The other was Mark's brother Garry who was a Captain in the Army. Basil was a sergeant and served in Germany as crew chief for an Army helicopter in the late 1950's. He was in Germany at the same time Elvis Presley was serving as a private in the Army. Basil recalled seeing Presley one day, from just a short distance away. So close and yet so far! Basil came from a farm and is very mechanically inclined. He worked for Felker Brothers in Marshfield creating special gadgets to keep the factory running until his retirement about fifteen years ago. |

Now here is the good part. Basil likes to make wine. He shared his latest with Mark who gave it his official stamp of approval. Good going, Basil! |
Quote of the day: Glad to stay in touch with old friends. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
