The life and times of Mark and Paula Persons

Wednesday, January 9, 2013:  Mark and Paula dined at a Hard Rock Cafe in the afternoon.

Great food and good atmosphere.

Well, at least they made it easier at this establishment for those heading to a restroom.

These things get a bit confusing at times.

There was plenty for everyone to do at hotels along the beach and there was much to see as well.

Paula was wondering who those shoeless footprints were as she walked the sands of Waikiki.  Nice legs, Paula!
Happy surfers are a common sight.  They just can't seem to get enough of it.

Yes, even Santa showed up to play fiddle for beach goers.  Now we know where he winters!

Birds on Waikiki are very tame and love to be eat bread from tourists.

What a life!

It was fun to see a sailing boat come into Waikiki Beach with Diamond Head in the background.

It doesn't get much better than this.

Sunset that night attracted a lot of people, as it usually does.  Their is even a sailboat under the setting sun.

This is the same hotel that Mark and Paula honeymooned in some 35 years ago.  Good service from a friendly staff.

The downside is that this hotel and most other hotels now have a "Daily Resort Charge."  In this case, it was $18 plus tax over the already quoted and pre-paid price for the room.  Guests/suckers have no choice, but to pay.

Funny how they get away with that!

The hotel also had Hula entertainment in the evening.

The music and dance are hypnotizing in a way and very soothing.

A great way to wind down from a work environment on the mainland.

There are just 13 letters in the Hawaiian language alphabet.

Many Hawaiian words start with K or H and end with a vowel.

Waikiki Beach at night.  An awesome sight.  It is 2 miles long and 1 mile deep.
Mark and Paula were advised by a tour guide that they could get away with doing anything in Hawaii because people back home will never hear about it!

There are engravings in the sidewalks to help non-Hawaiians learn the language.  Nicely done.

Hotels do not have outside doors.  The weather is temperate enough so none are needed.  Not like Minnesota!

Stay tuned for more stories about the Hawaii visit.

Quote of the day:  Waikiki is alive day and night.   Mark    < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
