The life and times of Mark and Paula Persons

May 21 & 22, 2010:  Mark and Paula attended the annual Radio Daze event in in Plymouth, MN.  It was sponsored by the Northland Antique Radio Club in conjunction with the Antique Wireless Association and the Museum of Broadcasting.  Many hundreds of antique radio were bought and sold along with radio parts.  This photo shows just half of the outdoor flea market.

Mark liked the old style loop receiving antenna.  It can be rotated for strongest reception or to null an unwanted station.

Paula posed with some of the antiques including a 1950s Philco Television set that later sold at auction for $90.

This happy guy is the new owner of a Scott Imperial Model 23 Radio.  He bought it at auction for about $1500.

The dynamic duo traveled to the Museum of Broadcasting and got this photo of a "Man from Mars" radio hat.  It was advertised in Life, Time, and Business Weekly magazines in 1951 and sold for a mere $7.95 by mail order.  The hat came in eight colors and had two tubes.  It is was an AM-only radio with a loop antenna at the rear.  What geek could be without one?

At the end of the day it was time to return to Gilbert Lodge.  This was a 1900 mile road trip.  Along the way, they met dozens of fun and interesting people.  The Buick Rendezvous averaged 23.1 miles per gallon of gas on the journey.  Mark and Paula were glad to get back home.

May 23, 2010 e-mail:  Nice pictures on the Gilbert Lodge site (Regarding trip to Michigan).  Good luck getting out of the travel mode and back into the work mode. Hmmm let's see - 40 years in the work mode - 9 days in the travel/leisure/retirement mode. You may have to do more of this again soon in order to help restore the balance of the universe.  Anyway, hope you had a good time.  Jim in Baxter, Minnesota.
