We went to the Ford Museum in Dearborn, just outside of Detroit, Michigan. It is a part of a theme park celebrating the life of Henry Ford and the history of Ford Motors. Click on the photo for a larger view. |
The museum also had a section called Heroes of the Sky. In there we found a 1920s Ford Tri-Motor. Click on the photo for a larger view. |
This is the 1926 Ford Flyvver, a single-seat fun airplane. It is sometimes referred to as Ford's "Model T of the Sky." Click on the photo for a larger view. |
A replica of the Wright Flyer was on display too. Click on the photo for a larger view. |
The story of Charles Lindbergh, with a replica of the Spirit of St. Louis, were there to impress visitors. Click on the photo for a larger view. |
A display honoring the life if aviatrix Amelia Earhart was in that part of the museum. Click on the photo for a larger view. |
This unusual aluminum and Plexiglas home is called the Dymaxion. It was a collaboration between Buckminster Fuller and aircraft manufacturer Beechcraft in 1944. While there was a lot of interest in this novel idea, the home never went into mass production. Only two prototypes were built. One was used in Kansas for 20 years as a residence. The fun part of this car museum was getting a photograph with the Weinermobile. A nearby restaurant served hot dogs in at least 15 different ways. Click on the photo for a larger view. |
Quote of the day: The Ford Museum is a great place to spend an afternoon. Mark |
