         The life and times of Mark and Paula Persons

August 25, 2009:  Paula and Mark, along with 110 Rotarians and family, met at Leader, MN, to see the Leader Area Pig Races.  Leader is about 30 miles northwest of Gilbert Lodge.  Paula is a member of the Brainerd Noon Rotary Club.  They enjoyed good company and food.  (l-r) Brainerd Rotary President Rick Bricker, Past President Paula Persons, Past President Dave Johnson and his wife Marsha. 

The pigs are let out on an oval course. 

Each is numbered so we know which one is the winner.

Other activities included a hula-hoop contest for the kids.  

Here, men wore large stretchable outer wear while their wives stuffed them with balloons.  Balloons were then counted by breaking them one at a time with pins.  Ouch!! 

Some raced with horse balloons. 

Kids dove for Dollars in the sawdust.  A great show for everyone. 

Our troops were honored with a flag ceremony. 

Finally, it was time for fireworks.  A fun time was had by all.
