The life and times of Mark and Paula Persons

May 24, 2009:  Mark and Paula visited the Minnesota History Society Museum in St. Paul.  It was the start of the museum's newest exhibit, Minnesota's Greatest Generation.  A take-off on America's Greatest Generation, this one showed World War II history at home in Minnesota and abroad on battlefields.

This was the big weekend preceding Memorial Day.  Local historians came to the museum to show off their hobby.  In this case, it was people representing the 105th U.S. Army Engineer Combat Battalion, which served in Europe during World War II.

They dressed in period costume and had equipment back then.  Mark was happy to learn about portable field radios of the time.

Inside the museum, Mark posed with another historian in front of an armored personnel carrier.  The history lesson was great.  We thank all of those who have served in our armed services.

Paula met a lady historian who portrayed Virginia Mae Hope 1921 - 1944, who was a member of the Women's Air Force Service Pilots (WASP) during WWII.  Virginia was from Winnebago, MN, and flew airplanes in the United States freeing men to fly overseas.

Thought of the Day:  Freedom--no word was ever spoken that has held out greater hope, demanded greater sacrifice, needed more to be nurtured, blessed more the giver, or come closer to being God's will on earth.  WWII General Omar N. Bradley
