May 23, 2009: The Minnesota State Capital in St. Paul. |
On the steps, you will find statues of Minnesota native son Knute Nelson (1843 - 1923). This man was three years a soldier in the Civil War, three times a member of Congress, twice Governor of Minnesota. |
On the capital grounds is the World War II memorial. |
Nearby is the statue of a U.S. Soldier in winter dress serving in the Korean War in the early 1950's.
|
He can be seen through this cut-out also nearby. |
The Vietnam War is represented by a granite wall with the names of Minnesotans who died in that bloody conflict. |
Not far away is a pair of statues depicting the life of famous aviator Charles Lindbergh. He is famous for being the first to fly ross the Atlantic Ocean from New York to Paris in 1927. "Lucky Lindy" grew up in Little Falls, MN, and is remembered there in a museum in his honor. The smaller statue to the right is Lindbergh as a boy with his arms out in flight. To the left is Lindbergh just after crossing the Atlantic with his flight cap in hand. |
Thought of the Day: Patriotism is not a short and frenzied outburst of emotion but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime." Adlai E. Stevenson, Jr. |
