March 31, 2009: Spring temperatures melted most of the snow up until this day. Then, the weatherman promised a foot of snow and this is what it looked like when Mark was called out to repair a radio broadcast transmitter at the beginning of the storm. Winds were variable and there were occasional white-outs. |
|
Not to be deterred, Mark made his way to the KFGI Radio transmitter site north of Crosby, MN, and repaired this RCA BTF-20 20-Kilowatt FM transmitter. Paula wasn't worried about the weather either. She headed off to a noon meeting of the Brainerd Rotary Club.

Upon returning to Gilbert Lodge, the couple found snow on the Pine trees. |

It wasn't long before Mark
was clearing snow on the driveway for the second time that day.
It has been said that Minnesota is populated by people who do not like summer. Hmmm...I never thought of it that way. |
|
Sure enough, it started snowing again in the evening. Wow...look at the size of those snow flakes in front of Gilbert Lodge.
April 1, 2009: At dawn's early light, the rain gauge is overflowing the snow and the trees are near the breaking point. .
More snow throwing in front of Gilbert Lodge. They SAY spring is coming...one of these days.
Trees on the lake side of Gilbert Lodge are showing off their new coat of snow. Only the fern in the Great Room at the Lodge is showing color.
The snow was thick on everything everywhere. One of the charms of living in Minnesota.
That same day, Mark was called out to do an emergency repair on the KLKS Radio main transmitter near Breezy Point, MN. The auxiliary transmitter kept them on the air while Mark was in route. |
