March 10, 2009: Winter was throwing a spring snowstorm at us. At times, there were near-whiteout conditions especially on the roads. |
|
Even the birds were having problems getting to the feeder.
|
|
Paula cooked her famous Southwest/Minnesota Chili for dinner to keep us warm. |
|
At sunset, the trees are heavy with snow and snow was built-up on the outside of the windows. Overnight temperature dipped to 8 degrees below zero and the wind chill plummeted to 25 degrees below zero.
March 11, 2009: The Promenade Deck at Gilbert Lodge has snow that came through the large window screens. A far cry from summer conditions.
Looking out the window in the Chef's Galley, snow is piled high on the roof of the garage below. Only about 7 inches of snow fell this time. Other communities received more than 12 inches.
Gilbert Lodge is trimmed with snow as temperatures
rose to 4 degrees above zero later in the day. Cold temperatures usually
follow snowfall. Thursday morning, the temperature was 21 below zero.
Spring is coming with the promise of 40 degrees for a St. Patrick's Day parade on Saturday, March 14th. |
