December 25, 2009: A white Christmas. At daybreak, we woke up to 3 inches of snow on the ground. Yes, that was in addition to the three inches which had fallen the day before with temperatures hovering in the 20 to 30 degree range. Trees showed off their new Christmas coat of snow. |
Paula's dad Chester "Chet" Timman stopped by. Chet served every day of World War II in the U. S. Navy mostly at Pearl Harbor. He arrived there in mid-December 1941 while many ships were still burning from the damage inflicted by the Japanese surprise attack on December 7th even before war was declared. Paula cooked a turkey in the Galley to celebrate Christmas. Someone said the turkey looked a little scrawny, so Chef Paula stuffed some old bread in it! |
The turkey is being carved by Mark under the watchful eye of Chet. |
The dinner plates were fit for a king complete with home made dressing and gravy. |
Later, Mark and Paula took neighbors Claire Sinner (on the left), Jax their dog, and daughter Haley Sinner to the Carefree Living nursing home in Brainerd were Ione "Mom" Timman is living nowadays. Mark read, "Twas the Night Before Christmas," to the delight of the crowd. Jax is very well mannered and groomed. He was much liked and petted while there. |
Not quite back to Gilbert Lodge, they found the Fabian's building a snowman in 32 degree weather. There was Mike with his daughter Libby having a great time. |
Quote of the day: Christmas is a wonderful time of year. Mark |
