May 25, 2008: A new American Flag "Old Glory" was purchased and raised to the top of the flagpole at Gilbert Lodge just in time for the Memorial Day weekend. The original flag had been up four years and was becoming tattered. The flag is kept flying day and night because it is lit at night. |
May 19, 2008: Annual Memorial Day ceremonies are held on the Laurel Street Bridge over the Mississippi River in Brainerd, MN. A prayer is given and a wreath is dropped into the river in honor of those who died at sea. |
The Color Guard then moved to the All Veterans' Memorial near the Crow Wing County Courthouse. |
Mark and Paula traveled to Crosslake, MN, to observe Memorial Day ceremonies. Here, a group of Girl Scouts prepare to put flowers at the base of a flag pole. |
Ceremonies are held with the flag at half-staff. |
A gun salute is given and Taps are played in honor of those who fought and died for our freedom. |
