January 15, 2008: Sunset through the trees and across the snow.

Daytime temperatures are running in the 10 degree above zero (F) range with below zero at night.  The outlook is for 15 degrees below zero (F) in a few days.

We are hunkering down for winter inside Gilbert Lodge.  

The sunset spreads its golden radiance over pine trees at the lodge. 
Here are some recent temperatures:

Jan. 17:  Morning -11 degrees F.  Afternoon +9 degrees.
Jan. 18:  Morning -7 degrees.  Afternoon -2 degrees.
Jan. 19:  Morning -22 degrees.  Afternoon -1 degree.
Jan. 20:  Morning -22 degrees.  Afternoon -1 degree.
Note: On January 19th and 20th, it was 54 degrees below freezing.
Jan. 21:  Morning -4 degrees.  Afternoon +8 degrees.
Jan. 22:  Morning -2 degrees.  Afternoon +8 degrees.
Jan. 23:  Morning -12 degrees.  Afternoon -1 degree.
Jan. 24:  Morning -20 degrees.  Afternoon +11 degrees.
Jan. 25:  Morning -4 degrees.   Afternoon +18 degrees.

The Persons, including Josie the cat, are seen here on the evening of January 18th by the Grand Fireplace in the Great Room at Gilbert Lodge.  The outside temperature, at that time, was 6 degrees below zero.  It is a great night for a fire in the fireplace.

January 20th:  Pacific Salmon ala Minnesota was served at dinner in the Great Room at Gilbert Lodge along with Minnesota potatoes, topped with Minnesota butter, and pea pods with almonds.
