September 10, 2005 Paula and Mark are busy splitting firewood, late in the summer, for the Grand Fireplace at Gilbert Lodge. This is an annual event. The wood comes from the grounds of Gilbert Lodge. The wood is pine, oak, and there is even birch. Some of the standing trees are approaching 80 feet in height. A few pieces of the wood split this day was 16-inches in diameter. |

September 10, 2005 Paula stands by some of the split wood. In all, about three cords of wood were split, which should easily last the winter at Gilbert Lodge. |

September 12, 2005 Paula cooks up Minnesota Beef Pot Roast with potatoes, carrots, and gravy in the Chef's Galley at Gilbert Lodge. |
