Friday, December 6, 2024: Crow Wing State Park is about 20 miles south of Brainerd. This is where the Crow Wing River and the Mississippi River come together. Mark and Paula were there in near zero degree weather to take a two-mile hike. Canadian Goose were smarter and were seen heading south that day. Crow Wing State Park is where ox carts crossed the river on the Red River Trail. Mark discovered this tree that had been eaten into by woodpeckers, those pesky creatures! There was a community here in the mid-1800s, but went away after the railway crossed the Mississippi River at Brainerd in 1871. Ox carts sere no longer used. |
