Wednesday, June 14,
2017: Flag
Day. Ceremonies were held at Woodland Acres Senior Living. Veterans from the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans were there. |
Then piano music
was played while hundreds, young and old alike, watched. |
The Geritol Frolics singing group
entertained the crowd. |
They sang their hearts out with
The Star Spangled Banner,
You're a Grand Old Flag, and America the Beautiful.
|
The Honor Guard presnted a 21 gun salute to
those who died in defense of our country. |
After the ceremony and speeches, a local
band played toe-tapping music. Second from the right was Mike Williams, Junior Vice Commander at the Brainerd VFW. His harmonica playing was impromptu. He couldn't help joining in and the band liked it. |
Lots of good comments and happy people that
day. The weather was in the mid-70s. |

member of the VFW Auxiliary. The men are members of the American Legion. |
Then ceremonies were held at the All
Veterans Memorial in Brainerd put on by
Brainerd Elks
Lodge #615. Sara Aamodt is seen here singing the National Anthem. She also sang God Bless America. |
A nice size crowd as usual.....and very
respectful. |
These young people brought flags.
They were serious about what they did. |
The local
Civil Air Patrol chapter sent young people. They looked very
good next to the veterans. |
The ceremony was serious and nicely done. |
This Vietnam veteran was presented with a
blanket from the
Quilts of Honor local group. He was surprised and honored. |
Quote of the day: I was humbled by the experience. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
