Wednesday,
January 13, 2016: Mark and Paula headed to the
Guenther House in San Antonio. It was the residence of the family which owned the flower mill. That facility is still in operation next door. Nowadays, the house is a museum where a Christmas candy house was on display. Some 100 pounds of candy required 200 hours to construct. Great restaurant on site. Just can't get enough of that Texas food! |
|
A new city park includes many fun challenges such as this chess and checker area. Water fountains are big there too. |
Being history people, Mark and Paula headed to the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures. It is easy to spend a half day there learning about how native civilizations evolved into the Texas we have today. There is a huge World War Two section showing favorite sons Audi Murphy and Samuel Dealey, both Medal of Honor recipients in WWII. |
Later in the day, Paula
was sitting on a balcony at her room reading the latest emails on her
tablet computer. Yes, there was a refreshing cool drink after a day on the town. |
|
Look what is
23 floors below the room. It is part of the San Antonio River Walk
complete with a tour boat or two. |
|
Yes, these boats ply the
waters of the San Antonio River.
Tourists love them. Lots to learn from tour guides. |
|
The Duo took a boat ride that evening. |
The river winds through town with many T intersections.
Lots of restaurants and sights along the way.
"Stop the boat, I want to get off," said Mark. "There's my old friend Patty O'Brien!" | Paula got a "bum steer" when picking up this one to talk to that night! Better luck next time, Paula. |
Quote of the day: We had a great time in Texas. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
