January 11, 2016: Alamo Rangers are looking at Mark!
Hmmm....and who is the guy with Mark? Oh, it's Davey Crockett! Davey must have been a tall guy. He looks a lot like Fess Parker too. |
|
The Alamo
in San Antonio where vastly outnumbered Texas defenders fought
to the death, losing to self-proclaimed Mexican dictator General
Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna in March 1836.
Jim Bowie and
Davy Crockett were counted among the 200 dead. The
Alamo was considered a key to the defense of Texas from Mexican
aggression. Santa Anna was later killed and his army
disbanded by U.S. troops. This place attracts thousands of visitors. The Alamo is considered the "Shrine of Texas Liberty." |
This historian showed weapons of the period. Very interesting. |
The Alamo was a Catholic mission and a defense against
invaders. There is a lot of history to see at the site.
|
|
T-shirts in the gift shop tell the Texas story
too. |
|
There is a huge Alamo battle display at the
Briscoe Western Art
Museum, just six blocks from the Alamo. |
The Alamo is hauntingly beautiful at night. There is a nearby IMAX theatre nearby which shows The Price of Freedom. |
Looks like a high up place!. What does this mean? |
Quote of the day: Remember the Alamo. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
