18, 2015: A day at Camp Ripley honoring Vietnam Veterans. Retired U.S. Army General John Vessey Jr. was there to speak. A Minnesota boy, he told of the courage and sacrifice of those who fought in Vietnam. |
|
Veterans were there to check out a new Vietnam War exhibit room at the Minnesota Military Museum. |
Re-enactors showed uniforms and were on hand to thank veterans for their service. | |
A model of a U.S. Navy patrol boat
was there. Those boats ran the rivers looking for Viet Cong. |
Weapons of the time were displayed along with an early military infrared scope. |
Probably the most identifiable piece
of military hardware was the
UH-1 Iroquois helicopter, commonly referred to as a "Huey."
They were the way to get in and out of the jungles of Vietnam.
This retired soldier remembered them well after 45 years. Thumbs
up and an
American Bald Eagle tattoo on his left leg. Representatives of the Vietnam Veterans of America were there too. Many veterans belog. |
Quote of the day: Vietnam veterans are starting to show themselves after many years. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
