Sunday,
March 1, 2015: Mark and
Paula visited Superior, Wisconsin. They found a bronze statue of a sailor
handling a heavy ship line. Nearby was a 30 foot tall artwork of ice. |
|
The Aerial Bridge is a
favorite stopping spot for Mark at Duluth. He enjoys the marine
museum there too. This is the "headwaters of the Great Lakes." |
Mark remembers from his childhood when he could
have been a sailor. Instead, he was a U.S. Army soldier and then a radio
broadcast engineer. A retired U.S. Coast Guard tugboat is on display...looking out longingly at Lake Superior. |
Fishermen were in abundance that day on the
ice north and east of Duluth. |
Paula was out photographing ice heaves.
They are often almost as clear as glass. |
The weather was very good that day with almost
unlimited visibility. Temperature was in the low 20s. |
The ice yielded to open water along the north
shore of Lake Superior. |
Just 16 days until St. Patrick's Day. |
Quote of the day: Always fun to visit the north shore. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
