Saturday, July 27, 2013: Mark and Paula headed to a Celtic Fest at the Farm on St. Mathias, just south of Brainerd. There were plenty of animals including donkeys and horses that loved to be fed. |
There was music, much of it Irish. It is fun to see musicians feeling good about their art. |
Face painting was very well done.
It takes a real artist to do it this well. |
There was beer that was brewed locally. A popular item that day. |
Several blacksmiths showed how to forge iron into
useful items. This is Jim Newgord, visiting the farm from Riverside Forge from his place in Pillager, Minnesota. Hot stuff. |
A young lady was learning to do blacksmithing that day. |
This young man was mesmerized by hot iron. He may be a great blacksmith someday. |
Sheep were sheared and then petted. The sheep didn't mind much especially since it was cooler for them in warm weather. |
Sheep wool was spun into thread and then woven
into cloth. Nicely done. |
A peat
stove was demonstrated for providing heat on cold days. Peat is decayed vegetation found in wetlands. When dried out, it makes a good fuel. Some people really like the smell of peat while it is burning. |
Quote of the day: Lots to experience at a festival like this. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
