Friday, July 26, 2013:
Mark and Paula were off to Duluth, Minnesota,
to see the Tall Ships. This event
brought in a dozen or more large wooden sailing vessels that were
built as modern day duplicates as those from hundreds of years ago.
They sailed the oceans and the Great Lakes powered by sail. |
People
were allowed to tour many of the ships. Paula liked the wheel on this one and thought of taking her out for a run around the harbor. |
Mark manned a canon to protect
the ship against pirates. You can never be too careful. |
Did someone say pirate?
This one is
Captain
Jack Sparrow. Paula, watch yourself! You might have to walk the gang plank or be hung from a yard arm. |
There was a lot to see on these colorful ships. The event, once every two years, draws 250,000 visitors. |
Yes, they have women sailors too. Mark thought that was a very good idea. Aye sailor, hand me a line. |
Smaller sailing boats joined in on
the fun. |
The U.S. Navy has a rich tradition of being on the
water too. Anchors away! |
Quote of the day: A fascinating look at another way to get around. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
