The life and times of Mark and Paula Persons

Wednesday, July 17, 2013:

The annual Country Sampler Picnic was held at the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd.

Arb Executive Director Dale Brady was there with Renee, a Master Naturalist.

There was plenty of good food to go around.

Bob Stafford played music in the gazebo area.

Bob has worked in radio broadcasting most of his life.

He was at KLIZ Radio in Brainerd and later at KLKS Radio in Pequot lakes.

Some 3000 or more people attend the event every year.

A stage coach took many for a ride around the grounds.

A fun thing to do while they were waiting for the beer to arrive.

This young lady tended to the horses named Tory and Lacy.

Plenty of young cowboys around too.

Speaking of cowboys, this cowboy wannabe was out looking for girls like the one above who was portraying a pirate eating a cupcake.

Love springs eternal.

Then there were pig races brought in from Leader, Minnesota.

The story is that the pigs who loose will be on your dinner plate tomorrow.

Norman's Bait and Tackle Choir and band were on hand to entertain the crowd too.

They are regulars at the event.  A fun group with songs and jokes.  A tough act to follow.

Mark Hegstrom (aka Ken Thomas) is heard daily on WJJY Radio in Brainerd.  You see him in white on the left photo.

Quote of the day:  Always fun at the Country Sampler.   Mark    < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
