Monday,
April 15, 2013:
Mark traveled to Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. It was a very snowy day, but that didn't stop Minnesotans from getting out to see the world. |
Snow hung everywhere and even on the bell tower there. A beautiful sight. |
Then it was off the the
Hjemkomst Center
in Moorhead just across the river from Fargo, North Dakota. This museum told the story of Robert Asp's dream to create a Viking ship. |
The Hjemkomst, a wooden ship, was built at Hawley,
Minnesota, just near Moorhead. The interesting part is that Hawley is at least 250 miles from the closest port that can handle it. The keel was laid in 1974, but it wasn't until 1980 until it was finally launched into Lake Superior at Duluth, Minnesota. Creator Robert Asp died shortly thereafter, but the project was carried on. The ship sailed down the Great Lakes and across the Atlantic Ocean to Oslo, Norway, arriving in August 1982. Later, the Hjemkomst was returned to Minnesota as the center piece of the museum. |

Mark returned to Brainerd later in the day so that
he and Paula could celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary.
The Grand Fireplace had a warm glow that evening. |
The wine was one they picked up while in Door
County, Wisconsin, last summer.
See: http://gilbertlodge.com/2012/09-06-12-scenic-byway.html No other details were available about the wedding anniversary celebration that night. Darn! |
Quote of the day: Always something interesting every day. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
