Wednesday, April 23, 2014: 
The ice was starting to recede from the shoreline on the southeast side of Gilbert lake.
It became black and had puddles of water on top.
 
Friday, April 25, 2014: 
Most of the lake ice was gone except for a small patch of ice near Gilligan's Island.
That ice was completely gone by sundown.
Past ice-out dates include 5/10/13, 4/7/12, 4/20/11, 3/31/10, 4/17/09, 4/18/08, and 4/7/06.
 
Even this Pileated Woodpecker showed up. 
We can finally get on with the annual change of season.
 
News Flash!  Ice on the larger part of Gilbert Lake went out on May 1st and the first boat was seen going by Gilbert Lodge at 7:45 PM on May 3rd.
